Naia Terminal 1 departure drop-off area has new, safer layout

The departure drop-off area at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 1 is now following a parallel layout, New Naia Infra Corp. (NNIC) said on Friday, May 9, 2025.
MANILA, Philippines — The departure drop-off area at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 1 is now following a parallel layout, the New Naia Infra Corp. (NNIC) said on Friday.
This layout replaced the diagonal setup used by the airport terminal since the 1990s.
“This change is part of the ongoing efforts to make curbside drop-offs safer and more efficient for passengers and drivers alike,” NNIC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, security bollards in the airport are also undergoing reviews for security checks. The bollards have been installed across the airport since 2019.
“At the same time, an audit of all security bollards across Naia is underway to ensure they were properly installed,” the airport terminal operator added.
This came after a sports utility vehicle crashed outside Terminal 1 last Sunday, claiming the lives of a 28-year-old man and a four-year-old girl.

The bollards, which were supposed to prevent the car from ramming further into the pedestrians and facilities, have been the subject of scrutiny for the past few days.
According to a 2019 report by the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), the government spent around P8 million for the installation of security bollards at Naia terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered an investigation into the bollards’ procurement and specifications. The MIAA and the San Miguel Corporation earlier said that they are already investigating the faulty bollards and the tragic incident.
