MANILA, Philippines — Three Valenzuela City Police Station officers were arrested after allegedly demanding P100,000 from an unidentified complainant.
The officers were arrested in an entrapment operation on Wednesday evening along Governor Santiago Street in Barangay Malinta, Valenzuela City, the Northern Police District (NPD) said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the police, the officers accused the complainant’s housemaid of theft and demanded the money in exchange for not filing a case against them.
“Under pressure, the complainant had already handed over P5,000 and issued a post-dated check for P50,000 before coordinating with authorities to arrange the entrapment,” the NPD said.

The NPD explained that apart from the three personnel arrested, 15 Valenzuela City police officers were also administratively relieved from their posts “in line with the principles of accountability and internal cleansing.”
Among those relieved was the chief of the city police’s investigation section, the NPD added./mcm
