Malacanang Palace.

MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang on Wednesday said two officials of the Department of Health (DOH) had been removed from their posts.

Based on letters dated April 15 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Ariel Valencia’s tenure as assistant secretary has expired.

Meanwhile, the extension of service for Jaime Bernadas as director IV has been terminated.

Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa was instructed to inform Valencia and Bernadas of their removal from the agency.

The letters did not say why the officials were removed from office.

But Palace Press Officer Claire Castro told reporters in a Viber message: “When you serve at the pleasure, your tenure may expire at any time.”
